The SMATCH base module orchestrates EV charging, taking into account the static power capacity constraints of the business site. It does so by distributing the available power across all connected EVs without exceeding available capacities.
SMATCH is designed for networks at any level of complexity, respecting all circuit breaker limits. For example, in a network with multiple clusters of charging points, SMATCH keeps the load allocated to each cluster below the limit of its circuit breaker.
Limiting EV charging during peak hours or at high rates
In SMATCH Base, the site manager can define a site charging plan, determining the power available for charging during a 24-hour cycle. In the base configuration SMATCH can:
- Prohibit or limit EV charging during the hours when consumption is normally at its peak at the site; and
- Promote EV charging during hours when electricity costs are lower and limit charging during hours when electricity costs are higher.
